Ferrocarriles Unidos Dominicanos dejaron de prestar
servicio de viajeros, cerrándose tramos y reservando
sólo una parte del trazado entre la ciudad de la Vega y
el Puerto de Sánchez para el tráfico exclusivo y
temporal de productos de exportación. En la República
Dominicana existen otros ferrocarriles vinculados en
exclusividad a la industria azucarera.
